Wizard's Help Floor Size Guidance

Guidance on Floor Sizing

Your floor size is one of the most important pieces of information when designing a radiant heating system. The total square footage of each floor helps determine how many PEX loops you’ll need, how much insulation to plan for, and how your system should be zoned for the best comfort and efficiency. Larger floors require more tubing and pump capacity, while smaller or segmented floors may benefit from additional thermostat zones.

The Wizard uses your floor size to calculate the PEX length needed, the insulation bundles required, and layout options that fit your space. Whether your home sits on a concrete slab or uses a wood subfloor, knowing the square footage allows us to plan proper tubing spacing and effective heat coverage. Open layouts often work as a single zone, while floors with bedrooms, hallways, garages, or additions may be more comfortable when split into separate zones.

You don’t need to be precise, an estimate is usually enough to build a reliable layout. Also, once you submit your project, a member of our team will review everything to make sure the system is sized exactly right for your home.
