Wizard's Help Heat Loads

About Heat Loads

Your home’s heat load is the amount of heat it needs to stay comfortable on the coldest days of the year. Every radiant system is designed around this number. It depends heavily on where you live. For example, a home built in Minnesota needs far more heating power than a home in southern California, even if both houses are the same size. That’s why our Wizard will ask you for your region. Your climate plays a major role in how much heat your system needs to deliver.

To determine heat load, the US Department of Energy divides the country into Climate Zones. Each zone represents a different range of winter temperatures, and homes in colder zones require a stronger heating output to offset the greater heat loss. Beyond climate, factors like planned insulation levels, window count, what your floor plan and ceiling height are, all influence how quickly a home loses heat and how much warmth it needs to stay comfortable. We’re going to ask you all about your home’s features so we can get a more precise system designed for you.

The Wizard uses your location and basic home details to estimate a radiant system that fits your region’s requirements. It’s a good starting point, and if your home has more unique features than what our Wizard asks, a member of our team can help you fine tune the details.
